Filming start

Today me and luke have decided to start to film some of the narrative scenes for our music video today. we are going to film all of the narrative scenes first and film the performance scenes after, this is because then we can make sure that we have covered the whole video. we have a simple idea for the performance scenes but the narrative scenes will take longer to film as they are more complicated.

Our filming location got moved too adams house, and instead of having joab in our music video we have now used adam in it. We made these changes because adams house was closer and the bedroom was more ideal for the filming location as it is a bigger room. On our first day

Story-Boarding

Me and Luke started too look at different shots that would fit into the narrative scenes of our video and decided to story board the story and the performance scenes separately. This is because then we can focus on doing the performing scenes first and then work on the story and edit it together. i think by doing it this way it will make it alot easier then doing it all in order as we wont have to worry about how it all fits together until after we have done the performance scenes.

Booty Call

this is a time plan of when will will start and when we will finish different jobs.

We have gone to town and bought equipment for the Music videos. This was things such as a clock, clothes, hats, and other items. We need these for our music video otherwise we cant film most of it.

Analysing

We have looked and analyzed a few music videos in the same genre as booty call (the song we are doing.)

These are such songs as
'All the small things' -Blink 182
'Lez be friends' - The Midnight Beast
'white and nerdy' - weird al.

In these music videos they all use very quick changing shots and a lot of cuts. I think this is because of the was the lines are really fast and it also keeps the audience entertained. they use a lot of mid shots - long shots for the narrative scenes, this is to set the main focus of the camera on the person singing. We have noticed that they only use the same shot 1-4 times per video. This is because its easier to film and still looks very professional and affective.

Booty Call

We have looked at the song Booty Call by The Midnight Beast and looked at the different shots that they used to make up there music videos. The majority of the shots are close ups and mid shots. This is because it shows the singer most of the time, therefore it is putting the cameras focus on them.

On a song as fast and upbeat as 'Booty Call' there is alot of editing used. This is such as alot of cutting but not as many special effects such as fading and wipes.

Changing songs.

We have decided to change songs to the song: BootyCall which is still by the midnight beast. We have done this because we like the faster pace music in the song. Also we will be able to film this song easier as we know what and where to film. The genre would be pop, although it is alot faster then majority of pop songs therefore we will have to use alot of short shots and quick cuts. This is because the song is fast therefore the video will have to be fast to keep up with it.

Audience

The target audience for this type of genre would normaly be 11-16 year olds but because of the use of strong laungage i feel the perticular song that we have chosen to do would be aimed at a higher aged audience. I would say the target audience for most of 'the midnight beasts' songs would be 15-18 year olds. I think the Genre is mixed as both girls and boys listen to them.

Technically Compentent

In the music video we are going to use alot of box wipes, fades and slow motion editing. This is because alot of this happens in the genre of music videos, (pop-rock.) They also have alot of close ups showing the peoples faces as they sing, where as in genres such as rap and rock they manly use long shots and mid shots to show whos singing. This is because in rock and rap songs the singers will be moving around alot or playing instoments.

The editing on a pop-rock video between shots is mainly fades, cuts and box swipes. These are easy editing skills and look very good within the genre of music video that i am doing. They also use high shots and alot of cross cuts between singers.

Pictures

This is a picture of the band that i have chosen a song for. They are a unsigned band who are aged around 16-20, They mainly perform to audiences of the same age group as themselfs as it is this age group who would listen to here genre of music.

Videos

I have looked at videos of songs such as Ninjas, play that funky music, and wake me up before you go-go. I have picked to look at these because they are in the same genre of music as the song that i have chosen to do. Most of these will use alot of fades, cuts and box cuts to change scene. They also use alot of different carmera angles and shots such as high shots and close ups to esablish the genre of the song.

CD

I designed a CD cover for the song that we have decided to do and also started tomake the inside of the book for inside the CD. The CD's i looked at where of bands who work within the pop-rock genre, therefore i would get a look at what their CD covers look like. Most of them had the band members close up to the Camera with the title in the background, therefore i decided to design ours like this.

Genre

For our music video we are using a rock-pop song that is also mixed in with abit of comady. We picked this because it will be easier to do and we all like the song. We have made a story board for the music video and planned out each shot / camera movment.

Production filming

I made two different short clips to test out filming techniques. the 1st one i made started out with a long shot of poppy walking down some stairs with me hiding in the bushes. I did this to show her being followed. by the camera looking at her from inside the bushes it shows a point of view shot so the audience that she is being watched. I used poppy as the one being followed because the traditional representation would be the woman/girl being the one being stalked to show hem as being the weaker sex. We then did a shot of poppy walking down the stairs looking paranoid to show the fear of being watched/followed. the clothing that poppy was wearing is showing her to be more of a laid back person who would be vulnerable to an attack and this helps to show that something is going to happen to her.

Our Group

In my group there are Me, Himilay and Luke. We have looked at many of bands and song and desided to pick 'Friends for Never.'
We have come up with plenty of idea's for this video that will add a sense of humer to the video as well as being sensible.

Bands

We desided to look at some Unsigned bands on websites such as myspace and youtube for our music video. We looked mostly at this one band called 'The Midnight Beast.'
We liked there music because it not only sounded very good but it also had an element of comidey to it. This is very helpful for us because we feel that making a video for these songs would not only be fun but also challenging. We looked at 3 songs very closely, These where:
The Midnight Beast: Friends for never.
The Midnight Beast: House party.
The Midnight Beast: Camden Crawling.
These are all great songs that are by unsigned artists.
